Working Principle Of IGBT Rectifier

The basic working principle of GBT rectifier is to convert AC into DC. The main components of the rectifier include IGBT, diode and filter circuit. The AC is first rectified by the diode to convert the AC into unidirectional pulsed DC, and then the ripple is reduced by the filter circuit, and finally the smooth DC is output.

The working process of IGBT rectifier can be divided into the following stages:

  • AC to DC conversion‌: The AC power provides AC input, usually a sinusoidal AC voltage.
  • ‌Rectification stage‌: The AC voltage is rectified using a diode to produce a unidirectional current, allowing current to flow in only one direction.
  • ‌Filtering stage‌: The pulsating DC voltage is reduced by a filter (usually composed of an inductor and a capacitor) to reduce ripples and smooth the voltage waveform, producing a relatively constant DC voltage.
  • ‌IGBT control‌: The filtered DC voltage is provided to the IGBT, and the output voltage and current are managed by the IGBT. The rectifier accurately adjusts the output voltage and current by adjusting the duty cycle and switching frequency of the IGBT.
  • ‌Feedback Control‌: The output is continuously monitored and feedback mechanisms such as voltage and current sensors provide data to the control circuit. Based on the feedback, the control system modifies the IGBT switches to provide a stable and precise DC output.

IGBT rectifier features and benefits‌ include:

  • ‌High voltage and current handling capabilities‌: IGBTs are able to handle high voltage and high current applications.
  • ‌High switching speed‌: IGBTs have higher switching speeds than BJTs and are able to respond quickly to control signals.
  • ‌Low on-resistance‌: IGBTs have very low on-resistance, reducing power losses.
  • ‌Simple gate drive circuit‌: The gate drive circuit for IGBTs is simple and inexpensive, reducing system costs.
